As I began to formulate this post, I searched the internet for “Mixology”. As it happens that phrase still refers mostly to cocktails. However I use it when referring to combining skin care products together to enhance visible results. This can be very helpful not only in the treatment room but also at home. Clients want to know what’s new, can they “do this at home” and what else they can do to further improve their skin. As an Aesthetician I create and discuss a long-term treatment plan for each client to reach their skin care goals. When a client decides to DIY at home, that can temporarily derail our plan so I do offer clients with new yet safe treatments they can do at home that are on point with our overall skin rejuvenation plan.

One of my favorites for detoxing the skin, clearing away dead cells and oil on the surface and refining the overall appearance of the skin is the combination of SkinCeuticals Retexturing Activator and Clarifying Clay Masque. Not only can this be used as a pre-peel prep in the treatment room, I confidently recommend this to clients for at-home weekly exfoliation between treatments that will not interfere or interact with any other products they are currently using including Retin-A and Retinols. How to: Mix a pea-size amount of Clarifying Clay Masque with 3-4 drops of Retexturing Activator, apply to the entire face and allow to dry for 7-10 minutes then rinse. Finish by applying your usual skin care products.
